Quick answers about how our calculators work, what’s included, and how to get help. For deeper detail, see our Methodology and Editorial & Review Policy.

Using the calculators

How do I use the City Paycheck Calculator?

Choose your state and (optional) city, enter gross pay, pay frequency, and any pre-tax deductions (401(k)%, HSA/FSA/Insurance). We estimate Federal, FICA, state, and local withholding and show your net (take-home) pay per period.

Start here: All state calculatorsAll city calculators.

Which pay frequencies are supported?

Weekly (52), Biweekly (26), Semi-Monthly (24), Monthly (12), and Annual (1). We annualize your inputs, compute taxes, then convert results back to your chosen frequency.

Do you handle bonuses or supplemental wages?

Where noted, we use a simplified supplemental-wage approach (e.g., flat federal rate) for estimates. Employer methods vary (aggregate vs. flat) and may produce different results. Check the page notes or our Methodology.

Multiple jobs or side income—can I model that?

You can run separate scenarios and add results manually for planning. Some W-4 multiple-job phase-outs aren’t fully modeled unless a page notes otherwise. For precise withholding, consult your employer’s payroll or a tax professional.

What about dependents, allowances, and W-4 settings?

We focus on core withholding math. Some pages include a simplified dependents/credit field when we can model it clearly. For detailed W-4 planning, refer to official IRS instructions and compare with our estimate.

Taxes & deductions

Which taxes are included?

Federal income tax, FICA (Social Security up to the wage base + Medicare + additional Medicare surtax where applicable), state income tax (if any), and local (city/school-district) tax where verified. See our Methodology for the sequence.

Do you include pre-tax deductions like 401(k), HSA/FSA, or insurance?

Yes. Enter your 401(k) as a %, and HSA/FSA/Insurance as $ per period. We apply IRS/state rules where allowed. Roth contributions are post-tax and do not reduce taxable wages.

Are complex credits (EITC/CTC) or reciprocity agreements modeled?

Not by default. Where a state/city has unique rules we can reliably implement, you’ll see a note on that page. Otherwise, we keep estimates simple and educational.

Why does my actual paycheck differ from your estimate?

Employer payroll setups (W-4 specifics, YTD timing, fringe benefits, local rules, rounding) can differ. Match frequency and inputs exactly, then compare again. See our Methodology and Troubleshooting.

States & cities

Do you cover all 50 states and DC?

Yes. Start at the state hub. We also include many local city/school-district taxes where verified—browse the city hub.

How do you handle local (city/school-district) taxes?

We include local rates when we have reliable, current sources and clear applicability rules (residency vs. workplace). If rules are ambiguous, we present a simplified estimate or note the limitation on the page.

My city isn’t listed—can you add it?

Please send the city name and any official tax links to contact@citypaycheckcalculator.com. We regularly expand coverage based on verified sources.

Privacy & data

Do you store my calculator inputs?

Calculator inputs are typically processed in your browser and are not saved to a personal profile. If you email us screenshots or details, those messages are stored in our support inbox. See our Privacy Policy.

How do I access, delete, or correct my data?

Use our Data Request Center to submit GDPR/CCPA requests (access, deletion, correction, portability). We verify identity and respond within the legal timelines.

How do cookies and consent work on your site?

We use essential cookies for site operation and—if you consent—optional analytics/advertising cookies. Manage choices anytime on our Cookie Policy & Consent page.

Troubleshooting

The numbers look off—what should I check first?
  • Match pay frequency and gross amount exactly (biweekly vs monthly).
  • Mirror pre-tax items (401(k)% and HSA/FSA/Insurance $) precisely.
  • Confirm state and city (local taxes can change results).
  • Consider YTD effects (e.g., Social Security wage base reached late in the year).

Still off? Email us with the page URL and inputs: contact@citypaycheckcalculator.com.

Why do biweekly totals sometimes differ from monthly?

Annualization uses fixed periods (26 for biweekly, 12 for monthly). In rare 27-pay years or with rounding, your paystub may differ from a simple monthly × 12 comparison.

Where can I see how you compute everything?

Our full process, including frequency conversions, FICA caps, and state/local handling, is explained in the Methodology.

Are your results financial or tax advice?

No—our tools provide educational estimates. For decisions, consult your employer’s payroll or a qualified tax professional. See our Disclaimer.
